The Indian Oscars take off in style: IIFA roll of honor

It has been the biggest event on the Bollywood calendar for the past few years and everyone’s been noticing it. No, we are not talking about the Filmfare Awards, its time for the IIFAs once again- the Indian answer to the Oscars. The great Bollywood (some hate that term, especially Fardeen Khan) idea of taking Indian cinema to the world by hosting a grand awards function at some of the world’s most happening cities. This time the caravan is in Bangkok where the greater part of the Hindi film industry has landed up for the year’s biggest celebration.

This year is special because none other than the Big B is the event ambassador. Then, as always there is a sneak peek at the biggest offerings that Bollywood will have over the next few months, IIFA is always bountiful. The glittering opening ceremony, live performances by Kareena Kapoor, Harman Baweja, the music release of Mission Istanbul and of course the star studded Sarkar Raj premiere which got a green carpet (instead of the usual red) because of the proximity to world environment day (June 5).

But, if the organizers were hoping to have an impact on global warming by using the green carpet, then they were completely off the mark. The stars just turned on the heat in Bangkok, especially the star couples Abhishek-Aishwarya and the latest sensation Ranbir-Deepika. However, there has been no talk about Saif-Kareena at the IIFAs so far. Meanwhile, Vivek Oberoi was caught in a very rare jolly mood during the audio release of Mission Istanbul where he shook a leg to the hit song from Shootout at Lokhandwala.
While all this was happening, the awards were announced and as 2007 had been an exceptional year in terms of quality cinema. Taare Zameen Par, however. was not part of all the excitement as its producer had decided that the IIFAs were too superficial to enter his film. Right on, Aamir.

And here goes the awards list….. don’t be surprised by the number of Chak Des here. For a change we decided to club the awards under the movie name rather than the other way- it was easier.

Chak De India

Translation of Jaane tu ya Jaane na

Wonder what you are to me, wonder what you were to me,
You were my every moment, onlyyou were my every moment,
Wonder how the attraction is, wonder how the [inflicted]pain is,
Why has this breath stopped, why is there moistness in the eyes?

We were convinced it was friendship, friendship and nothing else,
Why [then] this new ache, why does the heart feel broken?

My life, the life of my heart, how did I not know?
That this is love, whether or not you know,
My life, the life of my heart, how did you not know?
Yes, this is love, whether or not you know.

Wonder what you are to me, wonder what you were to me,
You were my every moment, only you were my every moment.

With you came the morning of every day,
Your afternoons gifted melody to the evenings,
The nights were lost in your mention,
In your thoughts I awoke and slept,
What is left without you?

Wonder what you are to me, wonder what you were to me,
You were my every moment, onlyyou were my every moment,
Wonder how the attraction is, wonder how the [inflicted]pain is,
Why has this breath stopped, why is there moistness in the eyes?

My life, the life of my heart, how did I not know?
That this is love, whether or not you know,
My life, the life of my heart, how did you not know?
Yes, this is love, whether or not you know.

Translation for Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi

Occasionally, Aditi, in life, like this, it feels like someone belongs to us,
Occasionally, Aditi, when he/she separates, it feels like [it was] a dream.
In such a case how can one stopo ones tears from flowing?
And how can something thing that everything's gonna be okay?

Occasionally in life, it feels like there is hardly any happiness or fun,
Occasionally in life, it feels like every day is difficult and every moment a punishment,
In such a case, how can one smile and laugh with happiness?
And how can someone think that everything's gonna be okay?

Think my love, of how much we like you,
We too cry if there are tears in your eyes,
We do not know how to sing, but we still sing,
Hey Aditi, agree that sometimes, theer is darkness in the whole world,
But only after the night does the dawn arrive.

Occasionally, Aditi, in life, like this, it feels like someone belongs to us,
Occasionally, Aditi, when he/she separates, it feels like [it was] a dream.

Hwy Aditi, laugh... laugh a little,
If not, at least smile... smile a little.

If you are happy, it feels like happiness is spread over the world,
The sun emerges from among the clouds and distributes life,
Listen a little, the uncontrolled wind starts telling youm
that Aditi, those who separate meet again, one day or another,
Aditi, whether or not you know, the flowers blossom again.

Occasionally, Aditi, in life, like this, it feels like someone belongs to us,
Occasionally, Aditi, when he/she separates, it feels like [it was] a dream.

Hwy Aditi, laugh... laugh a little,
If not, at least smile... smile a little.

Translation of Pappu Cant Dance Saala

[Tir kit dha na tir kit dhana
ti ti dha na Lets dance]2

Hai Muscular he's Popular 2
Spectacular,he is a bachelor,
Pappu's car is fast, Pappu is craze among women,
Pappu's eyes are light blue, Pappu looks like an Englishman,
A Rad watch on his hand, and [wearing] a perfume by Gucci.
But Pappy can't dance saala.

When Pappu was born, destinies shone, And he had a silver spoon in his mouth,
Pappu has money, he's filthy rich,
Pappu is the friend of friends, Pappu is the loved one, a star,

But Pappy can't dance saala,
Yeah, Pappy can't dance saala.

papa says he'll earn a big name, But Pappu will do such a thing,
Pappu holds a MBA, And he spends his holidays in France,
Pappu plays the guitar, and takes over wherever he goes.

But Pappy can't dance saala,
Yeah, Pappy can't dance saala.

Song Details - Vallamai Tharayo

Album: Vallamai Thaarayo

Song: Kolattam

Music director: Bharadwaj

Singer(s): Janani Bharadwaj, Jaya and Bharadwaj

This is a feel-good song with plenty of foot-tapping intricate rhythms (thanks to kolattam) lovely nagaswaram solos other instruments that effortlessly blend with the rhythms without shouting their presence. And a couple of small carnatic interludes add some surprise here. A different kind of attempt by Baradwaj.

Top Song..

Aha! What do we have here in the Top Ten list this time? Almost six songs dripping with melody! Quite pleasing to the ears, just to know that. Nakka Mukka seems set for a long innings .One does remember the music director predicting that this song would grip the minds of the audience. Grip it has, and how! The theme song of Subramaniyapuram is so differently put together and maybe that's why it has found a place here. As expected, Harish Raghavendra's song has already crept in. Let us check out the list now.

Rankings based on :

• Audio sales at music outlets in Chennai.
• Radio and Television ratings.
• Number of online Downloads.
• Ring tones downloads
• General Public reactions to the songs.

Album: Anjaathey

Song: Kannadasan

Music director: Sunder.C.Babu

Singer(s): Mysskin

This is a light, breezy song that appears to celebrate drunkenness, so to speak. When the song begins, you don't know whether the singer says' vaa, vaa' (come) or is merely throwing up! There is a half-hearted attempt to view the world and its ways after a couple of drinks. A fun song with surprisingly elegant, simple music interludes.

Thenavattu - Songs

Album: Thenavattu

Song: Engey

Music director: Srikanth Deva

Singer(s): Harish Raghavendra

A song that truly belongs in the top ten. A very melodious song rendered with feeling by Harish. And such nice use of violins! High pitched and low pitched renderings contrast to carry the song euphonically through. Reflects the sentiments of a lover pining for his girlfriend.

Designer Age admonition on taming the oil cost 6

Measure hebdomad there were signs that US commodity marketplace regulators may tightlipped loopholes whereby these long-term investors can gather brobdingnagian positions far larger than those permitted to everyday artifact speculators. Honorable same from Congress a tightening of both regulations and tax rules seems to be on the game.

Specified a move on the regulatory produce mightiness advisable, on its own, contrary the most recent fruit in the oil cost.

The base maneuver to cut long-term oil claim is up to the US Government. A political consensus seems to be forming to end Land's pricey reliance on oil imports. This consensus could take U.s. towards European-style energy taxes, structure by alter taxes on income and work. Any specified scissure would soul a vast phenomenon on globose oil responsibility. If US oil employment could be reduced gradually to today's Inhabitant direct - perfectly convincing, granted the analogous populations and levels of employment of these two continental economies - the cut in round oil condition would be nigh equivalent to Crockery's oil phthisis.

The fourth big rank in reducing globular oil dependance would be for Europe and Britain, as fortunate as the US, to make far greater financial incentives for renewable and atomic energy breeding.

The ultimate aim should be a modify from oil-based to electricity-based technologies in all industries and throughout the round economy.

If specified measures are adoptive, there can be no incertitude that the soprano performance testament cut long-term oil obligation drastically. So often so that the crown oil treatise almost the unavoidable tapering of spherical oil production module nigh certainly stay inexperienced and unproven; for, in the end, a gigantic component of the concern's oil supplies will be forsaken for ever, virtually pointless, in the perception. The belief of toll on duty was summarised during the finally force scandalize by Ruler Yamani, then Saudi Arabia's Oil Rector, filmmaker."

If oil stays anywhere nearby $100 a cylinder, the damage execution and the semipolitical saving of federal life testament ensure that the oil age ends desire before the humankind runs out of oil.

Dasa is about to unroll

Oscar Films Ravichandran produced much-hyped movie of the year, the Kamal Hassan-starrer Dasavatharam’s audio release is scheduled for April 25. Chennai is geared-up for the extravaganza which will host the Hong Kong born Hollywood star “Jackie Chan”. Mr. Ravichandran made a point to mention that the audio release of a legend’s movie must take place in front of a legendary action hero. The Nehru Indoor Stadium is being face-lifted for the hosting the gala on 25th April. Its setting at Nehru Stadium would resemble the Hollywood amphitheatre set up for presenting the renowned Academy awards.

SHORT REVIEW OF MOVIE

Comprising of over two hours of computer graphics, the movie had took its own sweet time in post-production. The entire graphics is taken care by Hong Kong-based VA which did the graphics for the film "Day After Tomorrow". Every one must look out for the awesome tsunami effect on a two-acre spread artificially created and filmed at Uthandi on ECR, Chennai. About 50 Hollywood technicians had to be brought from US to train local technicians. For the visual effects, Bryan from Los Angeles had come to work with the unit.

Tamil and Telugu versions of the film is planned to be released simultaneously as for now, and other instalments in various Indian languages will follow-up. “Crazy” Mohan and late veteran scholar “Sujatha” had made the dialogues in Tamil version sound professional. Although the movie has strong story-line and star cast, its music and the artist are new to the Tamil audience. Himmesh Reshammiya, despite his busy schedule, composed five songs and spawned a remix but has not done the music score for the film.

There are several contrasting roles played by Kamal Hassan in the movie, in which he play A Brahmin, A Dwarf, A Scientist, A Fighter, A Black Man, A Tourist Guide, An Old Woman, A Robber, A Young Lady, An Emperor. Now that, the audio is about to release, only time will tell whether the efforts put in are paid off.

Knight Riders rode over Bangalore RCs

The latest buzz in Indian cricket is the 1000 crore project "Indian Premier League" which kicked off at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 18th April 2008 for the 59 heart-stopping thriller T20 matches. Clash between the former Indian captains Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, was not like what was expected out of them.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium had been painted with Red and Yellow, the official color of Royal Challengers matched the jerseys of the team. Opening ceremony was scintillating with expert gymnasts from all across the world entertained the audience. Dazzling fireworks lit up the sky and smoke engulfed the skies. The introduction of the team captains followed by them signing the MCC's Spirit of Cricket was cheered by the enormous crowd. BCCI President, Mr. Sharad Pawar, rightly called it a ‘historic day’ for international and Indian cricket.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the match hands down after an unstoppable knock by Brendon McCullum

The match was however disappointing on the whole. The strong bowling attack forged by Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar failed to keep runs from accumulating that posed a great challenge to the Royal Challengers. Thought to be a well balanced team, BRC had very little experienced players, and the youngsters found it hard to hide the pressure on them.

Right from the beginning, the pitch was owned by KKR when McCullum banged the ball to the fence in the second over. From then on, there was no looking back for the team, occasionally when Saurav and Ponting fell. The numbers in the scoreboard spun for every ball and stopped at 222 at the end of the innings.

Mallya's Challengers knew their position well and must have given hopes right then. It showed, when the started their innings. The captain Rahul showed his boys, the way back to pavilion. Soon, wickets started falling frequently and the home team found them struggling to score a single. Praveen Kumar's relentless efforts to save the day went iSn vain and the whole team gave in after 15 overs.

The major problem suffered today and will be suffered by IPL is the restriction of only 4 international players to be played per match. Bangalore fell for a meagre total because of inexperienced lot, which could have been averted if there were lighter restrictions.
