Ishaan Awasthi is a eight-year-old boy with an active imagination. His world is filled with colours, animals and space-battles with math problems....A world that no one seems to understand or appreciate. His lack of interest in homework and knack for getting into trouble lands him in boarding school against his wishes. Away from home and his mother, his moodiness increases, and being reprimanded daily only adds to his grievances. Nothing changes, until one day, a new art teacher named Ram Shankar Nikumbh arrives. Ram decides to discover the reason behind Ishaan’s unhappiness, and eventually help the boy regain confidence in himself.

Written by Amole Gupte, the film deals with an unorthodox subject portrayed in a beautifully sensitive manner. The narrative of the movie is simplicity exemplified, the film moves at a wonderfully breezy pace. Yawn-worthy situations are pretty non-existant, as nothing seems forced or out-of-place.

Performances are top notch:

Aamir Khan (Ram Shankar Nikumbh) comes in 90 minutes into the film. And delivers exactly what is expected from him, an excellent performance.

Vipin Sharma as Ishaan’s father (Nandkishore Awasthi) is competant. Tisca Chopra as Ishaan’s mother (Maya Awasthi) is excellent! Sachet Engineer as Ishaan’s brother (Yohaan Awasthi) delivers a fine performance, so does Tanay Chheda as Ishaan’s best friend (Rajan Damodaran).

The star of the show is undoubtedly Darsheel Safary (Ishaan Awasthi). The young actor puts up a brilliant act that needs to be seen to be believed.

Music (Shanker, Ehsaan, Loy) is another high point. The songs have been beautifully incorporated in the narrative. The best of the lot is the Title track, Jame Raho and Maa. The last of three mentioned songs comes at a crucial point in the film. The heart-wrenching situation, combined with the touching lyrics of the song (Prasoon Jhoshi) is bound to get you all choked up. If you don’t, then your dead inside!

Taare Zameen Par marks Aamir Khan’s foray into filmmaking. And with this film, Aamir shows exactly why he’s called Mr. Perfectionist.

He is a fabulous storyteller with a great eye for detail. From handling the sensitive plot with extreme conviction to extracting an award worthy performance from child actor Darsheel, Aamir is brilliant all the way.

One of the best films to have come out this year. It is the ultimate treat this holiday season, go watch it, you won’t regret it.

Kuruvi - A commercial sakkadai

I could not sleep well last night because I had seen Kuruvi yesterday. What a nightmare (I mean the movie)!!!

I had some respect for Ilaya Thalapathi, not just he was a great actor (I know he sucks at it) but because of his fan support and a good man in general. But this film caused severe head ache that I had to take 4 pills before getting an uncomfortable sleep. After reading many comments about the shit of a movie, I was so desperate to see what caused the agony of the reviewers.

There are two things which I noticed while watching (half-asleep) the movie. Firstly, something must have gone wrong during the editing of the movie. And the sensor board must have had a big task in chopping of those bathroom scenes. Hey, why the hell he drives a sports car?? Just because they need to portray Vijay cut above the rest?

Secondly, the actors must have forgotten their roles completely. It’s so disgusting when Saranya supports some mofo named Kuruvi when her husband was seriously injured after being thrown into a speeding train. Trisha totally lacked basic acting skills or even expression which she portrayed in her infamous bathroom act.

The songs in the movie are rated from bad to worse, as far as Tamil cinemas’ standards are concerned. Unnecessary and un-groovy songs give the audience enough chances to take a leak!!!

Merit must be given to the stunt co-ordinator who is the only commendable person in the Kuruvi crew. Ashish Vidyarthi over acted during his minimal scenes which adds to the disgust, apart from the grotesque attire of Suman.

Directors of the Mask of Zorro, Fast and Furious, French Kiss will surely commit suicide if they watch Kuruvi, because of the pathetic imitation of such classy cult movies. But, I must really thank Dharani for showing more than 4 English movies in 3 hours, but in a manner pure movie fan vomits at sight.

Parody of Adventure - Meet the spartans

One of the best spoofs I've ever seen is the comical parody of the movie “300”. This movie titled “Meet the Spartans” spoofed the action packed adventure movie involving the Battle of Thermopylae "300" which came out in 2006. I’ve always liked the character played by Gerald Butler as King Leonidas, the ruler of Sparta, and descendant of Achilles.

This movie stole the laughter out of me, and kudos to Sean Maguire who took the lead role in the movie and was humorous to the core. At the beginning, the babies of Sparta are being inspected to be fit for battle and survival, when the immediately select Leonidas baby who has 6-pack abs and a beard!!! After killing a giant penguin Gerald Butler takes over the empire of Sparta.

Similar to the movie 300, a Persian messenger visits them to present Xerxes' demanding Sparta's submission. Leonidas kicks the messenger into "The Pit of Death". There are many occasions in this movie where crass comedy forces you to laugh. At the end of the movie, Gloria Gaynor's musical number I Will Survive is carried out on American Idol by every characters of the movie.

Watch out for "Azamat Bagatov" Ken Davitian playing the role of Xerxes, and that shows the level of humor involved. This movie, I feel, must have got its inspiration from Vijay TV’s Lollu Sabha and every viewer will commend on the class performance of the actors. Go watch the movie guys, or at least download them!!

placed in Cuba and America demmanded they be removed.  The Soviets refused, and
the world was put on the edge of a possible nuclear attack. To avoid a nuclear
war, President John F. Kenedy had to make a deal with the Soviet Union to get
them to remove the missiles.  As a cover story, the American government led
people to believe that America's part of the deal involved removing American
nukes from Turkey.  America's real part of the bargain was to give Sokolov back
to the Soviet Union.  Sokolov was forced to continue working on one of his
weapons for the Soviets.

According to recent intelligence, Sokolov is near completion of the nuclear
weapon and conducting tests in the Virgin Cliffs located in the Soviet Union.
Testing is the only chance they have of rescuing Sokolov.

Anthony Hopkins

It was 22 years ago when Anthony Hopkins and director, Roger Donaldson worked together on The Bounty. After that film wrapped, the two vowed never to work together again.

Their relationship was done; some would say it's because of some major egos, but others would say it just wasn't a good pairing. But after 20 years, that vow was broken in their latest film, The World's Fastest Indian. The movie is based on the true story of Burt Munro (Hopkins), a New Zealand man who built the fastest motorcycle in history.

Roger and Anthony sat down to talk about their time on the set; neither of them had any problems owning up to the feud that took place on The Bounty. Anthony just put it bluntly by saying, ‘Yeah, we didn't get on too well, we had our differences. I was younger then and when you're younger you have bigger ideas for everything.' Roger realized that he ‘may have been a little harsh and a little experienced' as well.

But at a party a few years ago, the two ran into each other. Both of them were very happy to talk again. Anthony joked and said, ‘We must have lunch.' And Roger jokingly said, ‘We must make another movie.' Little did they know what a small conversation could do for their estranged relationship.

Well, they did start to work together on a project about author, Ernest Hemmingway; that film never got off the ground. But Roger had written this script about Burt Munro; ‘I gave it to him, he read it that same day, called me back and said he's in.'

Anthony watched an earlier documentary about Burt which Roger had directed and conducted the interviews for. He found But to be ‘an interesting character,' and what do you know – the failed relationship was back strong.

Watching that documentary, Anthony got a feel for who Burt Munro was; and that feel is very important when he portrayed him on camera. ‘It was necessary to present as close as I could, because I don't look like him. But that was ok, we both have white hair.' It was Burt's demeanor in the documentary that really intrigued Anthony. ‘That's the essence of the guy, he enjoys life, he enjoys the ladies; his passion was his bike. I thought that's a nice guy, there's something really rich in him, he's not afraid of anything.'

Roger took himself back to the early stages of his career. ‘Even before I was thinking of making feature films, this story was in my thoughts.' Roger based the film character on a combination of the many years he spent with Burt. ‘I made a documentary about the guy; I came with him on one of his last times he came to America. In the real person's life, the first time he came over was in 1962, but that was in 1967. But I set the movie in 1962.'

The film was shooting the Speed Week scenes the same week as the real Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Salt Lake City, Utah. But the name Burt Munro still stood large. Roger and the crew at Bonneville worked side by side; ‘We had a track, and they had their track and they were setting their cars down at 400-500 miles an hour. We're over here shooting our movie, and one of their screaming monsters would go racing down in the background. But Burt Munro's name was on the program from last year.'

The accent of Burt's is very unique because of the deep Southern part of New Zealand he is from. Anthony had to study that accent very had to get it down right, but it was more important to study who he was as a person. ‘In that documentary, he would talk sort of funny; but I've got a responsibility to play the guy. Most of his family is still alive and they saw the film, and they loved it. They came on the set, and made me nervous; I asked Roger what he thought they were going to make of it. But they loved it, they enjoyed it, it's making their father famous.'

The World's Fastest Indian is a wonderful story of hope and living out your dreams. And the hope of Anthony and Roger working together again came true. The film based on the life of Ernest Hemmingway, Papa, is most likely never going to get made. But the two old enemies say they're looking for another film to work on again.

Burt Munro broke many speed records throughout the later part of his life, but the record he broke in 1967 at the Bonneville Salt Flats still stands today.
