Before talking about anything, I must say an important factor which may tend to make you think that I am boasting in front of the people. But its a fact that I am a Cisco certified network associate, or more commonly known as CCNA. All the time I've been in my home country I had not been exposed to sea food noe had I eaten one of them. But many of my friends expressed their willingness in introducing me to sea food and its loads of delicacies. Rajini apologizes to Kannadigas

With just a few days to go for Kuselan's worldwide release, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists seem determined to block the release of Kuselan in Karnataka. Earlier it seemed as though the issue was resolved, with the Karnataka Film Chamber Commerce striking a compromise of screening at least ten prints of the movie in Bangalore.

Today it would seem this cannot be taken for granted. With this in mind, Rajinikanth has now issued an apology for his 'anti-Kannadiga statements", appealing to the people of Karnataka not to block the release of Kuselan there.

"This incident has taught me a lesson. I shall never commit such a mistake again. Please allow the release of Kuselan in Karnataka, urged Rajinikanth, speaking to Kannada channels. "The people who are opposing me are also children of Karnataka. They are doing it for their state. Please, please forget the past and whatever I have said. Allow me to release my film. I am ready to help Kannadigas also," the star added. Earlier he had even sent a letter of regret in Kannada but the activists wanted a public apology, which he has now given. But the question now is: how will his repeated apology be viewed in Tamil Nadu?

However, some sources say that Rajini did not offer an apology as such, but only explained his difficult situation, caught as he seems to be in the crossfire between Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

Meanwhile, all the tickets for Kuselan's Friday opening in Bangalore have been sold out.

Kuselan beats the final hurdle!

Meanwhile, the president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, actress Jayamala said that Rajinikanth had sent a hand-written letter explaining that he had no intention of hurting the sentiments of Kannadigas. He reiterated in his letter that people other than Tamilians also enjoy his films.

Let alone reality shows, Shahrukh has modeled for products ranging from salt to satellite dishes and everything in between, giving professional models a run for their jobs. Although Shahrukh’s class teacher act for Paanchvi Pass on Star TV couldn’t render the same magic that his Crorepathi did, Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dhum is making waves owing to

his nonchalant ways of making the guests relax while hurling questions at them. Latest in line is Akshay Kumar, who, true to his daredevil image, is hosting the Indianized version of the Fear Factor show on the recently launched Colors TV.

While this is the scene up North, Southern television is screaming for want of attention from creative heads. Not to mention, Kollywood star power has never paid much attention to television. Danseuse and actor Shobana, in a press conference held yesterday, said that she is working on building a dance school – Kalarpana. The school will be located in the heart of the city – Alwarpet – and will have all the latest facilities including an air-conditioned hall to conduct dance performances. It is estimated that the building would cost about Rs. 3 crores and Shobana had spent about Rs. 2.5 crores for this project, which she considers is close to her heart. Shobana, in an effort to complete the building, has planned to conduct a dance show – Maya Ravan - in the Music Academy on July 18th. The proceeds of this dance show would be utilized to build the dance school, she said in the press conference. Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Milind Soman, Suhasini Maniratnam, Revathy, Rohini, Tabu and other famous film personalities will narrate the dance sequences in English, Shobana added. "Kalarpana is a tribute to my aunts Padmini, Rahini and Lalitha," said Shobana.

Embezzlement charge in Kollywood

Trouble started brewing up in the Distributors' Sangam with the Chennai, Thrivallur and Kancheepuram vice-president K. Anandhan alleging that the president, Kalaipuli Sekaran, had misappropriated about Rs. 25 lakhs of the Sangam's money in coalition with the secretary, Babu Rao. Speaking to a Behindwoods

correspondent, K. Anandhan said that a case was filed at the Madras High Court, which held that the Sangam's Registrar has the authority to look into the matter. The vice-president also rued that Kalaipuli Sekaran did not bother to table the accounts during the general body meeting. With the issue taking a centre stage now, the Distributors' Sangam plans to hold demonstrations condemning Kalaipuli Sekaran's unruly behavior.

Dasavatharam's incredible box office run – an update

Dasavatharam has grossed US $14,683,762 at the end of the third week after it hit the silver screens worldwide. However, the amount does not include the collections made in North America and from certain parts of India. After learning more about the Butterfly Effect and Chaos Theory weaved into the storyline, the audience seemed to have understood Dasavatharam better. In fact, people have been thronging the theatres to watch the film yet again after learning about these theories. It is inferred that if the present trend continues, Dasavatharam could easily be on its way to becoming one of the highest grossing South Indian movies around the globe. In Chennai city alone (not including the suburbs) it has grossed about Rs. 6.5 crores. With the collection details for the fourth week expected soon, the trade analysts have estimated the world wide collections to go beyond Rs. 100 crores in less than three weeks time!

Vivek Agnihotri's Freedom movement

His last release Dhana Dhana Dhan Goal may not have scored a 'goal' at the box-office, but Vivek Agnihotri is confident that his next release surely will. We had earlier reported that Vivek's next will be a biggie, with one of India's biggest corporate houses producing it. Vivek has now inked the deal.

Vivek confirmed the news about his next film. "My next film is titled Freedom and will be produced by Reliance Big Entertainment. This film will be of a 'biopic' genre, meaning that, it will have a biography and an epic weaved into each other. It will trace India's journey in the last 30 years", informs Vivek.


As for the actors, Vivek says that the film will surely have a dream starcast, but it's too early to speak about them. Although he did reveal that the film's starcast will have the best of the talents from all across the country.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na v/s Love Story Story 2050

he two eagerly awaited films, Aamir Khan's Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Harry Baweja's Love Story 2050 hit the screens today. The decks are clear for the first major clash of the second half of 2008. So let us evaluate what the release plans of the debut vehicles of Imraan Khan's Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Harman Baweja's Love Story 2050 are.

Interestingly, both the films have multiplex connections. While Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has been co-produced by PVR Films, Love Story 2050 has Adlabs in the same capacity. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has a total running time of 2 hrs and 35 minutes and Love Story 2050 has duration of 2 hrs and 59 minutes. The Aamir Khan venture will release with 350 plus prints (including 100 digital screens) and Harry Baweja's film will go in for 540 plus prints(including 200 digital screens) in India. In the Overseas, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na will have approximately 110 prints and Love Story 2050 will go in for 200.

Harman, Priyanka leave London Premiere half-way

Harman, his father, producer-director Harry Baweja, his girlfriend and co-star, Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani flew into London on Wednesday for the premiere of Love Story 2050. But as Harman reveals, there was a catch. "We left at interval. We couldn't stay for the whole film because we had to catch a flight back to Mumbai to look into the film's release in India. It was really sad that I could just stay for half of my first film. But I had no choice. We'd have missed our flight. We returned from London to Mumbai within ten hours. But never mind. I deputed some of my London-based cousins to look after the guests at the premiere."

While the Khans went all-out to ensure a massive glamorous turn-out at the Mumbai premiere of Imran Khan's debut film, the Bawejas restricted all their flamboyance to their 80-crore budgeted film.

Off screen they played it conservative and decided to have a quiet intimate screening of the film at Yash Raj Studios. Only close family and friends of the Bawejas were invited. Says a source, "They were just not interested in getting into a confrontational mode at all. The screening of Love Story 2050 on Thursday night was a quiet informal occasion when family and friends got to see the film for the first time."

Another screening of the film was held on Friday night at Yash Raj Studios, this time for colleagues from the industry. Nervous and anxious hours before the film's release, Harman said, "Yeah absolutely. We've decided to restrict all our flamboyance to the film. But we did have a fairly glamorous premiere at London's Feltham theatre. We had only two days to prepare for the event. And we did our best. Considering the limited time given to prepare we managed well."

Sandhya turns down Lawrence

Sandhya has been spotted on and off in Tamil cinema ever since she debuted with the surprise hit Kadhal. She now has Siva Manasula Sakthi and Odipolama in her kitty and recently declined an offer made by Lawrence to star alongside him for his next Raajadhi Raaja. The reason, she explains, was because the movie has five other lead ladies too and her fear that her role would be diluted.

Breaking the stereotypes of the song-and-dance routines, Chennai 28 team’s Saroja will have a background English song in the movie. The song, titled ‘My Life’ is being tuned by Yuvan Shankar Raja and will only appear for a few seconds as a background song in the movie. “We are planning for a promo video with the full length song,

This song has been shot with one of the well known music bands of Mumbai and was sung by Tanvi. Karthi – Nayan project kick starts

With Karthi back from Jaipur after the grueling schedules of the Selva Raghavan directed Aayirathil Oruvan, Lingusamy is all set to kick start his next project with him. The movie will go on floors from next month and the pooja will take place on July 14, 2008. The first leg of Aayirathil Oruvan is expected to commence in Chennai.

Lingusamy hasn’t named it yet and declares that it is an action and love story, customary to his movie making tradition. He also mentioned that the movie was delayed since Karthi was busy with Aayirathil Oruvan. “I took that time to spruce up the script a little bit and for finalizing the locations,” he added.

It is amazing that a man, at whose age most people would consider taking a walk to be quite a task, finds time to write the screenplay and dialogues for a movie while ruling Tamil Nadu. Yes, we are talking about Kalaignar Karunanidhi, the man who never seems to get tired. The last time he wrote a script for a movie was a couple of years ago with Mannin Maindhan. So, what do you expect when Kalaignar writes a script? Of course, not the usual romance and action cocktails that we get to see these days. Kalaignar’s love for Tamil has remained unchanged through the years and Uliyin Osai reiterates the fact.

Set in 1005 AD, a time when the kings of Tamil Nadu were at the peak of the powers, Uliyin Osai can be described as a reminder of how righteous and devout our culture was in the past. The story begins with Raja Rajan I desiring to build a great temple in Thanjavur. He wishes some beautiful sculptures to be installed and sends out his people far and wide in the search of a woman who looks good enough to be a model for the sculptor. The search goes on for quite a while without finding a girl whom the king thinks good enough to be the model for the sculptures in the temple. That is when the prince steps in and offers to find a solution. Indeed, he finds a woman, belonging to a poor shepherd family, who the king agrees is the one on whom the sculptures should be made. The sculpting works begin. But the human mind is fickle and moments when emotions take grip over the self can leave an indelible mark on the lives of people. It is one such incident that changes the course of the story and takes it to an unexpected ending. The mind that knows right from wrong is not able to

forgive the heart that took over in a feeble moment and in a touching manner, punishment is self inflicted. There is also another angle to the story wherein a lady’s love for a man remains unchanged in spite of the fact that he has changed in a way that cannot be undone. In short, Uliyin Osai is a story about all that we should be, righteous, chaste and loyal and above all there is the bond of love that once pledged should not be broken.

Ilaiyaraja’s music is definitely one of the high points of the movie though there are times when one is reminded of his earlier compositions - the experience on the whole is gratifying. ‘Kaalathai vendra oruvan’ in Bhavatharini’s voice is an absolute delight. The caste of the movie consists of Vineeth as the sculptor who has done a fine job. ‘Thalaivaasal’ Vijay makes an appearance in a negative role. Kanja Karuppu, Kovai Sarala and Manorama try to infuse comedy into the movie and succeed at points. Akshaya (Kalaaba Kadhalan) and Keerthi Chawla are the heroines.

Technically there is not much to mention but the art department headed by Mahi has done well with the period sets. Kannan with the camera and Suresh Urs at the editing table have all done a neat job. Credit must also go to debutant director Ilavenil for mature handling of an unusual theme. On the whole, Uliyin Osai is not a film with great merits but is certainly something different from the regular fare that we get. For those who care for something different on the screen this movie is worth a watch. Kalaignar’s dialogues in classical Tamil are a rarity these days and connoisseurs of the language will enjoy it.

Kamal says there is no story in Dasavatharam

Kamal Haasan on a recent visit to Kerala to promote his Dasavatharam had some interesting and blunt questions to answer. The actor was thrown a volley of questions and most prominent among them was: "Do you agree that Dasavatharam has no story?" Reacting to this, Kamal said that he did agree with that but also reiterated that he never promised that there would be a strong storline. .

Disclosing how Dasavatharam came into making, Kamal Haasan said that it was his idea to don ten roles that set the whole project in motion. The story was weaved on these ten characters, he added.

On the Punjabi Singh character that gets cured of cancer miraculously by a gunshot, Kamal said this idea was inspired from a real-life incident involving the Late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.G. Ramachandran. Explaining further, Kamal said that the TN CM acted in films and was able to talk even better after the gunshot wound.
