The (N)ever Ending Virus Problem!!!

Most of the naïve young men at the web world might find it distressing, once their system is affected by a computer virus, commonly found hiding behind useful software, downloaded torrent files or freelancer viruses such as pop-ups and e-mail bugs. Getting their system abruptly switched off, unable to access Task Manager, too many browser windows getting opened up or link modification to the Hard Disk Drives folders are some of the numerous problems faced by inexperienced lot. How viruses are developed and spread???

These are simple programs that run in Dos, VB or simple Java plugin files which are transferred by modifying the file name to something like .txt or .bmp making the naïve person to go for the file and download it.

Horses don’t replicate itself like computer virus, but survive by using up system physical resources, which would ultimately lead you to format the system to retrieve it!!!

Worms are subclass of virus, but it can travel without the help of any person, unlike virus. It combines the property of computer virus to replicate itself and send to every connected system. So watch out for thousands of copies of single worm being spread, every time the system is infected.

How to prevent viruses??

Keep your OS updated. Viruses are targeted to the OS used by a wide range of population, and are uncommon in Linux and other open source operating systems. Apart from that, a good antivirus coupled with firewall which is effective in combating DDOS or malware attacks. With some caution while browsing the web, and downloading stuff from the net and email, most of the viruses can be prevented.

Watch out for registry modifications when such attacks befall or simply clearing up the Temporary Internet Files, or the best way I know is finding the file name and delete them manually from the most common folder “C:\Windows\”. Chill guys, because Trojans cannot affect you once you are disconnected from Internet. However, there is 24/7 connectivity almost every where these days, which require you to be cautious. The ultimate step towards solving the problem is by obtaining expert advises and acting accordingly.
