Bigmal, the official trip organizer, came up with an amazing idea of overnight stay and booze at a haunted place called Khetri, 60 km from Pilani/ Jaipur (not sure of the exact location). Me(Sori), Gayram and Sai were on our trip to BITS Pilani for attending the symposium Apogee 2008, when we met the four others, and we felt a bonding between us which seemed years in making.
Anyways, the mountain range at Khetri comprise of two peaks known for its fortifications of Rajput kings. They are referred by the names King’s Fort and Queen’s Fort. Khetri had been haunted by stories of the Rajputs and its mystery hasn’t still been unfolded. We planned our trip to King’s fort, which we thought to be less scary, but turned out to be a nightmare!
The entire hilly ridges were pitch-dark, and the only light was from our camera flashed and mobile phone backlight. Actually we thought of going to another place called Bangarh, Ajabgarh which are considered the scariest places in
Khetri Pics
Because of time constraints and the fact that 3 of us had presentation the next morning, we had to opt for Khetri, which didn’t disappoint us either. We walked past densely packed trees on either side of a narrow pathway of an extremely steep hill, by clearing our way through.
After an hour of trek, we were almost near the peak. Since the moon wasn’t bright that night, we had lost our way. We experienced a twist of luck and fate after we saw a bright light at a distance. Once we reached there, we couldn’t find a single human around, except for a bull raging at us. With few bruises Gayram escaped and we thought it was a bad idea after all. We found out, the rooms with bright lights were cattle shed.
We went around and found a weird Red Jeep near a room, from where unfamiliar sounds came. Our hearts skipped a beat when we saw a big Caucasian clad in all black dress, who seemed like a psychopath. In the middle of the night, he was seriously chanting and murmuring continuously. I’ve heard ghosts pray at night, but he was far from it. We didn’t care to knock the door and disturb him and get a smacking for ourselvesJ. Later, the next day we came to know that he is really a lunatic, who will be bound by chains during the day, and let free at nights.
We thought it would not be a great idea, analyzing whom he was, and continued our journey, now with no clue where we head next. At last, after finding that we had taken a wrong turn, we went back on the right track and reached the hill fort. The fort was enormous and haunting, and even if one had to take a piss, he must be careful not to fall of the ledge. We talked for an hour or so, mostly about the lunatic, expecting him to turn up anytime with a knife and some thugs. Suddenly, we heard screaming sound from a distance.
Bonda got up and said “Mama, ippove kelambidalam da. Marana ganda irukku”, which was supported by Bigmal, who is renowned for his insight of any impending danger. We thought that some communal riot has erupted and felt it was unsafe, there at that point of night. We even swore not to get drunkJ. Soon enough, the sound was louder, and we were forced to call our cab driver downhill, who let us down saying that it’s not possible to bring the cab there. We stared each other and sprang up at once, ready to leave. By twist of fate, we recognised the screaming sound and it was Biggie’s friend shouting from down the hill.
When biggie shouted back “
